After leaving Bear Butte State Park, I decided to have a walkabout in Sturgis, SD. Since it was on the way to Deadwood, I figure why not find out what the big deal is with all the motorcyclers everywhere.
My first stop was the Knuckle Saloon. I meet with one of the owners who was nice enough to fill me in on the story about Sturgis, SD. He told me that Sturgis is home to the world's largest motorcycle rally. Every year in August, this quiet little town is overwhelmed with more than million motorcyclist. Man! Talk about Rolling Thunder.
He also asked mt to stick around for BBQ and the bull-riding event that was about to happen a few hours later. I said, "Sure, I wouldn't miss it for the world!"
I was talking to a young beautiful red-head who was working at one of the local gift shops about the rally, and she said that up until a couple of years ago, she would leave town during the week of the rally because of all the very loud noise. She went on to add, that the town makes tons of money during this time which is why the local citizens tolerate it every year.
